My original design had some flaws as well as some functionality that if brought forward could address.
I sketched out my new website and added in some ideas to better establish a sense of community.
There are some websites for single mums that created a sense of community that i looked at during my research! Just because a community is only doesnt mean that it is not a real community. As long as members are active participants and have a sense of 'belonging' and commin ground it is a community. Websites such as netmums can form lifelines for isolated single parents, and ther are ways to 'join in'.
New idea for the project: 'dinner-meets'
-Parents meeting for dinner at a persons house to try out child-friendly recipes
-This will get kids involved with making healthy food which is always a plus, take away some of the stress involved, and create a social event for isolated single parents
NEW IDEA: A section of the website with appropriate activities for children (whilst you are cooking), and perhaps things to quickly print out for them to do instead of just sitting them in front of the TV. Perhaps even children having their own website!
NEW IDEA: A points system for involvement: I noticed on quite a few community websites that you obtain points for interaction & positive contribution. Sometimes these points are worth nothing, and simply form 'graitification' and a sense of achievement. Occasionally points are rewarded. The points system might encourage people to use it more, creating possible revenue from ads.
I also need to focus more on the social side, how users will interact with eachother and view eachothers activity. How there will be a sense of 'self' i.e. choosing your own favourties, and setting up an individual user profile.
I also need to consider more how the website will look and 'feel' .
From my database system and PHP lectures this year, i realised the importance of planning these sections of the website. I need two databases at the moment for basic funtionality: one to contain the login information, and another to contain the recipe database information.
As i already have my domain setup, i just need to set up these databases in the phpmyadmin panel on dinnermate.net. What i want to do is get the basic functonality of the website set up, with maybe a few entries and then to work on the design.
